1) BSSC Finals Night News April 07

Bishop's Stortford Squash Club brought to close another successful season of squash when the club hosted a total of 10 Finals on Friday 27th April 2007.

The Junior Final was won for a record 4th time by England Under 17 Number 3 Olly Dixon who beat Nicholas Mulvey (14) 9-1 9-3 9-0 for the second successive year.

Vicky King won the Ladies title for the 9th time, she beat Kath Kemp who was playing in her first ever club Final. Kath had chances in the first game and held a game ball but Vicky won it 10-9 and the next two comfortably 9-1 9-3.

The Main Final was between Olly Dixon (16) and new club coach, former Ladies World Number 7 Rebecca Macree bidding to be the first woman to win the Open event, Olly had earlier beaten Club Manager Jason Foster 3-1 in the semi-finals, whilst Rebecca overcame defending Champion John McFarlane for the loss of only 7 points in the other semi-final.
In a tense battle Olly won the 1st game 9-7 which was crucial against his very experienced opponent. Brimming with confidence Olly took the next 9-3, Olly was 2-0 up and looked to be in control however Rebecca had other ideas and played superb attacking squash to win the 3rd game 9-0! Olly was not going to have it easy! Olly went back on court for the 4th game totally focussed and re-asserted his game trying to keep up the tempo, he played mature controlled squash to take the game 9-2 and the match to become the youngest ever winner of the Open event.

There were 7 other highly contested Finals, in arguably the best match of the night close friends Matt Delaney and Gavin Noffki (both former winners of the Chantry Squash Championships) shared the first 4 games to go to a decider, Gavin battled back from 2-0 down and looked favourite to win but Matt held on to take the 5th game 9-7 to win the Mens Plate event.

The Mens 'B' Tournament was won by Olly's younger brother Tim Dixon (14) who won his first ever senior event at the club, he beat Adam Grilli 3-1, Adam won the 1st game 9-7 but Tim's court craft prevailed winning the next 3 games 9-2 9-3 9-1.

The Mens 'C' Final was won by Dave Langridge who overcame Rocky Ciancola 9-1 6-9 10-8 9-8 with the last two games particularly close.

The Ladies 'B' event was won by new member Caroline Cullen who beat Teresa Pancutt in four competitive games.

The Mens 'B' Plate Final was a battle between 2 of the club juniors, with Nicholas Mulvey (14) beating Alastair Booth (16) 9-3 10-8 9-1.

The first match of the night was the Mens 'C' Plate Final, Adam Wilder won the 1st game 10-9 but his opponent Mike Fullalove staged a wonderful comeback to win the next 3 games 9-6 9-0 9-1.

Ceri Why won the Ladies 'A' Plate, she beat Brogan Lane 3-0.

Congratulations to all the winners.

The next event to look forward to is a social squash match vs Stevenage on Saturday 12th May (3pm start) which takes place before the Quiz Night later that evening. All standards welcome.
