HERTS COUNTY SRA MINUTES
COMMITTEE MEETING
at Sally Ann & Dominic’s house at 7.00 p.m.
on Monday 20th June 2005
Present: Jason Foster Sally Ann Webster
Isobel Smith Dominic Webster
1) Apologies Lesley Garner, Nicky Wase, Fiona McLure Action
2) AGM – 4th July 2005 at HCC
Sally Ann has booked HCC, still not sure whether to hold the meeting in the
main bar with curtains pulled across or at the far end in the Oak Suite.
Decided not to provide nibbles.
Dominic to put together an Agenda and circulate. Isobel to sort out previous
minutes and photocopy.
Point to Raise at AGM
Sally Ann has received an e-mail from Keith Warman of HCC regarding the way
the leagues are run. It was decided that he could put his proposal forward
at the AGM and
see what other players felt about the idea.
The County Cup Finals were a great success and enjoyed by everyone.
Committee had received some feedback on the way tournament was organised.
Some people didn’t like the week being set aside for the matches etc. as it
disrupted the season. It was decided that we would have a “play by” date as
this seems to work for England Squash. Also set the date for the finals
before the event starts so players can put it in their diaries.
Herts Closed
Isobel had spoken to Lesley Garner, who confirmed that she would be willing
to run the event again at Cannons. However, she asked whether the Committee
felt that Cannons was a viable venue, now that the partitioning was up
around the courts and the club no longer had a bar. The Committee discussed
the event and felt that there may well be some restriction due to the
partitioning. It was highlighted how much work Lesley had put in over the
years organising this tournament.
Jason put forward the idea of holding the tournament over a weekend and
venues were discussed. It was then suggested that perhaps we could split the
events and have a seniors weekend and a masters weekend, thereby getting
over the problem of players wishing to enter both events. The weekend that
would not clash with any other event would be 21st/22nd January 2006 for the
seniors and then the following weekend 28th/29th for the masters.
The Committee felt that a change in format might boost interest, as numbers
have been dropping steadily for the last few years. Also we could use
different venues for each event and hopefully players would not mind
travelling a bit further if it was only for the weekend.. This matter will
be raised at the AGM to try and glean whether it would be a good move or not
and the committee will ask whether any club would like to host one of the
weekends. The club would have to put a proposal forward and the Committee
would decide which venues to have. We would need a contact at the club who
would help run the tournament
If it did not work, we could always return to the normal format. Before we
do anything though, Isobel will speak to Lesley and asked what she thinks.
If this idea did go forward Isobel to ask whether Lesley could still send
out the entry forms as she has the data base, but obviously have the slips
returned to a different address…
POST MEETING NOTE:
Isobel spoke to Lesley and discussed the suggestion of holding the event
over a weekend. Lesley thought that this would be a good idea. Lesley said
that she would be willing to send out the entry forms at the appropriate
time but suggested that is should be “revamped”. Isobel to have a go at
this. Lesley also said she would be willing to do the draws. Thanks Lesley!
Accounts
Dean had kindly emailed through the draft accounts and Isobel handed copies
out. The committee could see no glaring errors, but would have a more
detailed read and get back to Dean with any amendments. Any comments will
need to be with Dean a.s.a.p. so that he can have the accounts audited for
the AGM.
Ladies Leagues
Nicky and Fiona are willing to continue running the leagues and Nicky has
confirmed that she will attend the AGM
Meeting finished at 9.00 p.m.
