COMMITTEE MEETING at HCC at 7.30 p.m. on Monday 24th May 2004 Present: Jason Foster Derek Thorpe Isobel Smith Dean Clayton Dominic Webster Betty Longhurst 1) Apologies Sally Ann Webster Action 2) Chairman i) Betty Longhurst formally resigned from the Committee as Ladies League Secretary. Thanks were given to Betty for hard work over the years. She will stand down at the AGM. ii) Jason will be attending the next junior committee meeting on 7th June. 3) Secretary
i) England Squash wish to change format of Senior and Masters county matches. Apparently this has worked successfully with the junior county matches although we were not consulted on this. Dominic to write asking for more details and to clarify the changes and will then circulate to committee so that they can make informed comments.
ii) AGM 15th June – Derek to prepare 20 squash-orientated questions. Jason will provide a picture quiz. Dominic will buy a box of white and red wine and some soft drinks for people to have a glass when they arrive. Dominic will speak to Lesley and will prepare the Agenda. 4) Ladies Leagues i) Betty confirmed that she had found someone to take over from her, in fact two ladies. These will be Nicky Wase and Fiona McLure of Gosling. She will hand over at the AGM.
ii) There are no summer leagues this year due to lack of interest. Dominic suggested perhaps a club night on a Monday evening where ladies can turn and play eachother. Betty will look into this. 5) Men’s Leagues i) Summer League – Dominic handed Dean the cheques for the summer league there is £240 still outstanding.
ii) Discipline. iii) The summer leagues are not online as there is some problem with the software. This will be sorted and started again for the winter leagues. There is still a lot of work involved in inputting data. When teams play out of order this also causes problems. We must try and enforce the rule whereby the team must play in order or risk having points taken away from that string down. this item to be put on the AGM Agenda. With all the additional work involved with the leagues, Dominic asked the committee to consider an increase in Sally Ann’s honorarium. The committee discussed this matter and agreed that it should be increased to £200 per annum. The ladies to remain at £50 for the moment.
iv) Betty has told Sally Ann how many trophies she needs. Sally Ann will order. 6) Treasurer
Dean told the committee that he had put his house on the market. Although he will not be moving immediately it would be prudent to start looking for someone to take over as Treasurer when the time comes and also a referee coordinator. Dean has spoken to Paul Allen who has moved into the area and may be willing to take on the referee post. Dominic will ask for volunteers at the AGM! ITEM FOR AGM AGENDA i) Derek had sent everyone a proposal for the maintenance of the website. After some discussion it was agreed to pay Derek £1,000 from June this year for the maintenance of the website. Derek is doing a fantastic job, thanks to him. Derek will look for any new companies/people who wish to advertise on the website and any fees will be split between Derek and HSRA. The junior section of the website makes up nearly half the workload for Derek. Do they need to make some contribution or should this expense be an additional sum paid for the juniors. Jason will raise this point when he attends their meeting. Dean confirmed that the accounts should be ready for the AGM 7) County Matches i) Jason has written to Gordon Ross, no response as yet. ii) Jason will get a written quote for County T Shirts.
8) Herts Closed 2004
i) Date will be 27th September to 2nd October and will be held at Cannons. Dominic will contact Lesley to confirm. Derek reported that the result from the poll on the website was that 78% of people wanted the Closed to be held at the same time. ii) Derek confirmed that he had found a sponsor for the Herts Closed, Just Rams. They will pay £1,000 sponsorship and another £1,000 for t-shirts. Nothing in writing as yet. Well done Derek. 9) Website Website going well. 10) Inflatable Squash Court
1) Dominic has been researching the inflatable squash court on internet. Nothing on the England Squash site !!! Apparently Gordon Craig theatre had the court last month but we were not told about this. Dominic has spoken to Dave Richards at Potters Bar who will enquire as to whether they would be willing to have the court there for day. Isobel had contacted Galleria but they do not have the space any more. Derek had approached the Harlequin Centre. Isobel to contact Knebworth and also see if we could book the Herts Show next year. Dominic showed the committee a draft flyer he had produced. 11) Newsletter Unfortunately no progress. 12) Any other Business
Jason would like the county to commemorate the Men’s O’45 team winning the national title and present something at the AGM. Following discussion, Dominic will arrange for a plaque to be made with a photo of the squad with their names on a plaque underneath to be presented to Dave Cooper. Jason would like to mention all the achievements of Herts players at the AGM, such as Bishops Stortford juniors reaching the national finals etc. Juniors need to be asked to prepare a report for the AGM. Meeting finished at 10.10 pm.
