Press Release
UK Squash Academy is proud to announce an exciting new venture in
partnership with Harrow Squash.
Top Squash comes to Hertfordshire at Bishop’s Stortford, Broxbourne and
Cannons St. Albans Squash Clubs who are hosts for the Harrow PSA
Challenger Series.
5th April 2007: UK Squash Academy Directors Paul Selby and John Milton are
happy to announce a Series of three Professional Squash Association (PSA)
Challenger events during June July and August. John Milton said that he
was happy to be announcing these events as the UK Squash Academy felt that
there was a need to run this type of tournament to help out the younger
professional Squash players to get their foot on the ladder and gain some
valuable points needed to elevate them in to higher events on the world
circuit. He was also keen to stress the part Harrow Squash were playing in
this venture in supporting these events with their sponsorship.
Mark Chaloner of Harrow Squash and PSA President who was a former World
no. 7 and England Captain and No. 1 was up to recently still playing on
the World circuit and when we asked him to consider coming on board with
this project he had no hesitation, citing the importance of giving these
young players a helping hand to move up the World rankings without having
to invest in travelling halfway around the world.
Harrow Squash are a leading brand of sports equipment manufacturers in
North America and who are making significant inroads into the UK market.
Squash is thriving in Hertfordshire at the moment with the Boys U15 and
Girls U13 teams the current National Champions. Bishop’s Stortford Squash
Club was recently voted England Squash club of the year and are the
current National Club Champions. Herts No1 Chris Ryder (Berkhamsted) is
the World University Champion; Adrian Waller (Potters Bar) is U19 & U17
National Champion.
We are really grateful to the three clubs that we are running these
events at for supporting us 100%. Paul Selby spoke of the Academy running
Junior and Adult tournaments alongside professional players to allow young
aspiring juniors and serious men and women amateur players to get a feel
of being involved with a Professional event. He was also hopeful of
running more events like these over the next year if these prove to be a
success.
