The Ladies Final was just as exciting, Sally Philp (Cannons) came back
from 2-0 down to win in five tough games, Elke Rubsam (Haileybury) played
excellently to keep her team in the match as she beat the Cannons number
1, 3-1. The last match between Lesley Garner (Cannons) and Jenny Pilgrim (Haileybury)
was a seesaw encounter and the shifts of power constantly changing,
however Lesley held on for a memorable win to take the Rose Bowl title for
Cannons St.Albans.
The crowd were treated to some wonderful squash in the Mens Senior Cup
Final, British Under 19 Champion Adrian Waller (Potters Bar) showed us all
his talent and skill by putting in a mature and assured performance
against Essex county player Rory Pennell to win 3-1. Geoff Taylor
(Broxbourne) raced into an early lead against the world ranked Jago
Nardelli but was cursing his luck when he lost the second and third games
10-8 and 10-9, Jago used all his worldly experience to win the match in
four games and put his Potters Bar team 2-0 ahead. Neil Waller (Potters
Bar) put on a fine exhibition as he comfortably beat James Clyne 3-0.
Malaysian World Number 19 Azlan Iskander (Potters Bar) treated the
appreciative crowd to a masterclass in how to play squash as he destroyed
England Over 40 Captain Peter Gunter for the loss of 3 points. Finally
Keith Timms (Broxbourne) played fantastically well and prevented a Potters
Bar whitewash to come back from 2-0 down against former England Junior
Captain Phil Barker to win 9-2 in the fifth game.
Thanks once again to Gary Spindler from Just Rackets for sponsoring the
event, to Radlett Lawn Tennis and Squash Club and their staff for hosting
the Finals and to the Hertfordshire Squash Committee for organising this
popular event and for supplying the food afterwards.

Potters Bar won through by a walkover after Berkhamsted could not raise a
team but Broxbourne caused a major upset by beating the
defending Champions Bishop's Stortford.
Broxbourne raced into a 2-0 lead when Essex County player Rory Pennell
came back from 2-0 down to beat Herts Over 35 Champion John McFarlane 9-4
in the fifth, Broxbourne Squash coach Geoff Taylor played masterfully to
beat Under 17 County junior and England number 3 Ollie Dixon in 4 tough
games.
Broxbourne clinched victory when Herts County player Keith Timms destroyed
Scottish International Harry Leitch 3-0.
Bishop's Stortford made the score respectable when Neil Hitchens and Jason
Foster beat Peter Gunter and James Clyne 3-0.
The Junior Cup Final will be between defending Champions Biggleswade and
Harlow from Division 4 who beat Division 3 Champions R3 Stevenage 2, 4-1
in a shock result.
Biggleswade ended Berkhamsted 4's excellent run in the event beating them
5-0 with wins from Tony Rumbold, Simon Gray, Chris Chin, Nigel Gazely and
Richard Anthony.
A new event to the Finals night is a Ladies Competition, this will be
between Bishop's Stortford/Haileybury (playing Monday 16th Apr) and
Cannons St.Albans.
The Finals start at 7pm on Thursday.
There should be some great matches so why not come along and watch TOP
squash in Hertfordshire. Spectators are FREE to attend and snacks will be
provided. Watch out for the match line up and itinerary to be released
early next week.
See you on Thursday.

'I'm delighted to
announce the draw for the
2007
Just Rackets Herts Cup
This year the draw has been regionalised so that the cost of travel is
limited, unless you do well and then you start to travel. Please share the
match fees.
There are a lot of local derby matches in the early rounds which should
add some spice to the ties and bragging rights to whoever wins!
