The Herts U15 team took on Hampshire, Surrey and Middlesex recently at Dragons Club in Northwood for the first stage of the annual Inter-County Championships. Three of the team have only just moved up from the successful U13 squad which won National Division 1 last year. Nevertheless it was clear from the first match where Daniel was pitched against nationally ranked Calum Wrench at number 5 that this weekend was not going to be easy. In fact both the Hants and the Surrey sides were far too strong for us in depth, so our only hope for some achievement was against Middx.

After losing 2-3 to both Hants and Surrey (only Adrian and Jonathon won their matches), Herts played Middx last on Sunday morning. All our players displayed the range of skills and determination that bodes well for the future, finally winning the tie 5-0 with only Jonathon dropping a game against a talented Guhbaj Kahlon. We will now play in the relegation decider against Dorset, Cornwall and Middlesex but are confident of avoiding the drop. Ours is still a relatively young team with 3 of the 5-boy team still under 13 years of age, so we have hopes for future success for this team.
