Minutes of Meeting 7/10/2002

Present: Ray Waller, Dudley Fuller, Ron Worrel,
Julian Craxton, Dave Richards, Dave Sciberras, John Dixon, Simon Andrews.
Apologies: Dave Kerr, Roxanne Ransley, Chris Wilkinson
Finances: Dave Scibberas has spoken with Dean who will be forwarding to us the amounts owed from 2001/02 season and 2002/03 season. We hope it will be in our account before the next meeting.
Dave to speak with Chris Wilkinson on moving the account to a more accessible branch.
Herts Closed: Thanks was expressed to Ron Worrell and Julian Craxton for their sterling efforts at the event which went off without major incidence. A record number of entries was obtained (125 aprox)
The event slightly overrun and thanks to Lesley for booking extra courts to complete the girls U11.
The Children were pleased with the T-Shirts and the U/11 format went well as the groups took around 1.5 hours to complete and the attention of the children was kept with short gaps between games.
Some of the older boys complained of the length of time between games but there is little that can be done to change this.
The Rankings are already available down to nos. 11. The other participants below 11 are in no particular order.
Inter County: All team managers have the packs from the SRA and from the rankings teams can be picked.
U13 – Traveling to Yorkshire. John Dixon is going to hold a training session on the 20th November for the top 10/12 players. From this the team will be selected. A few players pick themselves but the others must be decided upon. Costs for this should be in the region of £500.
U15 – In Middlesex. Team picks itself. Dave Sciberras envisages minimal cost. Should travel down each day.
U17 – In Berkshire. Team as per the rankings. No costs should be incurred.
U19 – In Harlow Essex. Dudley needs to know availability of Neil Waller.
Ron will provide phone numbers for the top ten ranked people in each age group and advise the team managers.
County Training; Paul Selby and Zahid Khan have been lined up. Jan date changed to 19th . Top 8 from each age group will be invited.
Lower Ranked Tournament Players and U11; Whilst the above accommodates the ‘County’ players for the U11 and U13 non ‘County’ players it was agreed that Julian would look for a suitable date to run an U11 fun day and Dave Richards look to run an U13 event for those below the top 8 seeds.
The graded tournaments were suggested to Dave and if he wishes to get together a team from the lower ranking order then financial support would be given to attend a tournament.
Awards For All – Ray Waller will attend a meeting of the county SDO’s on the 3/11/02 and advise of our ideas and intentions.
In order to contact schools in our chosen areas a letter will be given to all SDO’s and posters (to be prepared by Simon Andrews). These posters are to be distributed to schools in the following areas and the SDO’s will also be asked to circulate a letter to the Schools involved.: The clubs chosen are
Bishop Stortford
Radlett
These clubs will hold an ‘open morning’ between 10 –12 on the 15th Dec. for children interested in looking at Squash as a past-time. Depending on the success of this we will choose other clubs over the County to have ‘open days’.
Other avenues to reach schools will be continued and evaluated. In particular Ray Waller will continue in Mid Herts..
Interclub - Forms have been sent out . Must be returned to Ron by 28/10/02. 3 people per team. Age as of the 31st august.
Please all do your best to get as many teams as possible to enter.
A.O.B.
U13 Girls team – Is Roxanne going to run one?. Ray to contact and discuss.
Jenna Shrub – Entered only 2 age groups at the closed as three was too costly. For 2003 could a discount be considered. This to be reviewed for the next closed event.
National Junior Squash League run by
www.squashstuff.biz - we will not enter .Ron Worrel requested that we look at re-imbursement for running the 2003 closed. Ron spent numerous hours in getting everything together and lost income from coaching/events he usually undertakes. No payment will be made for the 2002 event.
It was agreed that the increase in numbers was partly due to the efforts of Ron and the income received from the extra entries could be of set against any reimbursement agreed. It was noted that in a year where funds were not available then the committee would have to review the situation. Any payment must be reviewed year on year.
Ron agreed to put together some ‘costings’ for the committee to review although we are talking 1 year away so no major speed is required. Perhaps any payment could be scaled to the number of entries thereby increasing payment if numbers are high. This is all for discussion over the next few months.
Date of Next meeting: Monday 3/11/02
