Herts County Junior Squash

Herts County Junior Meeting 8th Sept '03

Present: Ray, Dudley, Simon, Ron, John Dixon, Julian, Steve.

Apologies: Dave Scibberas, Dave Kerr.

Opening: Chairman welcomed everybody back after the summer break and also welcomed Steve ? , from HCC. Steve is one of the HCC coaches and wishes to become more involved in Herts. County Junior squash. New members are always welcome.

Finances: We still have approx £4600 in the bank. This has to be spent wisely over the next 12 months in promoting squash in the county.

We should be receiving around £750 from the Herts closed depending on entries and costs.

We should also be receiving money from the Herts. Senior Committee. There finances remain healthy and therefore we should expect funding of between £1250 - £1500 for the coming season.

Herts Closed: Entries were not as many as expected with one week to go before the closing date. It was decided to be slightly flexible on the closing date as for many clubs that Saturday was the first junior squash day. Team Managers were also requested to make some calls to get the number up.

This must have been successful as the tournament finally attracted a total of approx 150 people (includes 35 U/11) .

Congrats to all involved.

It was agreed that Ron would receive £1.00 per entry for all of the work that the tournament involved.

Interclub: Ron to e-mail forms out (we should now all have them) . Same format as last year. To be discussed at next meeting.

Intercounty; No venues received at date of the meeting but since the meeting the U15 travel to Middlesex, U19 Home.

Awards For all : A suggested spilt for the finance we have for 2003/2004 was:

£2000 Grass roots

£1000 County

£500 Elite

It was agreed that £20/hour was to be paid to Ron for his coaching with Watford Girls/Grammer.

It was generally agreed that more of these school taster sessions be arranged but the main problem to achieving this was availability of coaches during the daytime. Ron would make further efforts to get more schools involved in bringing children for these sessions and also speak with some potential coaches. Steve advised of his willingness to assist in the Radlett area. We have Ron Palmer in the Welwyn area so this would be a good start. (Chancellors School recently have agreed to bring along 8 pupils for one term after Christmas to HCC. Ron Palmer is aware of this and liasing with the teacher, Agreed £20/hour for Ron Palmer)

In general the schools interested should be offered one term of training and at the end of this hopefully some Children will go along to clubs. If the school’s wish to continue and pay the coach directly then this is a decision for them.

We must be careful not to offer for very long periods of time as they will be getting a free PE lesson. We must try and ensure some uptake to the sport from these schools.

AOB

Bishop Stortford was re-opening on the 8/9 and we wish them success with the refurbished club. Jason Foster will be the new manager and it is hoped he will be actively involved in the Junior scene.

Date of next meeting: 6/10/03
