 Girl's U15 County Matches on Sunday 22nd January 20

The U15 girls’ team played a tough second round group in the inter-county championships and narrowly failed to qualify, finishing third in the group. Having lost 4-1 to last year’s winners, Gloucestershire, in the first match of the day and then beaten Avon 5-0 it all came down to the final match against Surrey.

The girls had beaten Surrey 4-1 in the first round of the tournament but this time Surrey had brought along their number 1, England number 3 Kace Bartley, so things were going to be tougher. In the first two rubbers Rosemary Luscombe had a narrow 3-2 win and Hannah Mulvey a narrow 3-2 defeat, playing exceptionally well. The next two rubbers also went one a piece with Amber Marshall winning one of the closest fought matches of the day (12-14,11-9,14-12,16-14) and Grace Gear taking a game off the England number 3 and taking another game to a tie-break in her 3-1 defeat. The deciding rubber then fell to Nyah Williams who put up a brave fight but lost to the experienced Surrey girl, Rachel Stewart, who was two and half years older. Katie Birt, playing as reserve in this match, also lost to the Surrey reserve.

Congratulations to the team of Grace Gear, Hannah Mulvey, Rosemary Luscombe, Amber Marshall, Katie Birt and Nyah Williams for getting through to the second round and narrowly missing out on a place in the final. With three of the girls also playing in the under 13 event and only one of the six moving up to under 17 next year the prospects are looking good for 2012/13.
