The renewed
Herts Under 19 County Team kicked off its 2006/7 Inter
County Championship campaign in style with a determination
and serious performance in Cambridge last weekend.
Herts were
runners up in this championship last year but have lost
Neil Waller and Ben Andrews this season, the former being
out of age and the latter out of the country (China).
However, the new blood Rhys (stepping up from No.6) and
Ryan, still just 16 and 15 respectively performed
admirably, as can be seen from the results below.

Herts beat Cambs 5 0 |
All the matches in the first
four strings were comfortable wins for Herts. That is not
to say there were not good rallies or the games were not
taken seriously, they were but Herts were simply too
strong and disposed of their opponents in a professional
and respectable manner. Ryan at No. 5 had two hard games
and fought valiantly in both, losing the first and giving
100% focus on determination to win the second. I was very
impressed by his maturity in the face of some dubious
marking decisions on a few occasions.
Rob Worton fielded our No.6
position and whilst he lost his match against Essex played
well and showed the strength we have in our county. Cambs
were unable to field a 6th man which was disappointing.
Final positions and points
are:
1.
Hertfordshire 38
2.
Essex 2 19
3.
Cambridge 10
Well played everybody. We
are now through as winners of our group to play either
Surrey or Essex 1 and Hampshire, Sussex or Kent in Stage 2
on 28 January 2007.
