This years Championships attracted a record breaking 173 entries. The first competition took place on Saturday 16th September at Radlett Squash & Tennis club where17 juniors entered the U9 category, and 21 entered the U11 category. Julian Craxton, using his commanding teaching skills was able to organise and control all 38 juniors in his charge, ably assisted by Steve Lloyd. Congratulations to Tim Richards (Potters) U11 Boys Champion and William Clarke (Harpenden) runner-up. Congratulations to George Lawrence (Radlett) U9 Boys Champion and Hamish Gillams (Radlett) runner-up. Congratulations to Hannah Daly (Broxbourne) U11 Girls Champion and Kira Eilfield (Harpenden) runner-up. Congratulations to Grace Gear (Gosling) who was awarded the U9 Girls trophy. Being the only U9 girl entrant, she competed in the U11 girl contest where she came third. * * * * * The second competition took place over the weekend of 23rd & 24th September at Cannons Squash and Health club St.Albans, where a total of 143 matches were played. This was the venue for the U17 Boys, U19/17 Girls, U13 Boys and U13 Girls. The U17 Boys category saw 34 boys enter. With this amount of boys taking part, an A and B competition was arranged, with the top 16 seeds entering the A competition and the rest placed into the B section. After many exciting matches and a few close calls, the top 16 seeds eventually beat the rest of the pack to take the top 16 slots. Congratulations to Phil Waller (Hazelwood) U17 Boys Champion and Rhys Thomas (Gosling) runner-up. Congratulations to Jonathan Smith-Squire (Cannons) winner of the U17 Boys B competition and Ben Crouch (Gosling) runner-up Congratulations to Joe Richards (Potters) winner of the U17 Boys Plate competition and Louis Drakes (R3 Stevenage) runner-up. The U19/17 Girls competition saw just 5 girls enter. A mini league was arranged and these are the results. Congratulations to Jemma Ockwell (Radlett) U19/17 Girls Champion and Rachael Foster (Cannons) runner-up. Another well supported category was the U13 Boys competition with 29 boys entering. Two tournaments were also arranged for this group where all but one of the top 16 seeds finished in the top 16. Congratulations to Josh Ryan (Berkhamsted) U13 Boys Champion and Angus Gillams (Radlett) runner-up. Congratulations to Abe Nash (Harpenden) winner of the U13 Boys B competition and Freddie Jones (Berkhamsted) runner-up. Congratulations to Daniel Gear (Gosling) winner of the U13 Boys Plate competition and Angus Keely runner-up. 10 Girls took part in the U13 Girls competition where they were placed into two leagues of four with the top two going through to the finals session. Congratulations to Brogan Lane (Bishops Stortford) U13 Girls Champion and Jessica Foster (Cannons) runner-up. * * * * * The third competition took place over the weekend of 30th September 1st October at Berkhamsted Squash and Tennis club, where a total of 111 matches were played. This was the venue for the U19 Boys, U15 Boys and U15 Girls. 31 Juniors took part in the U15 Boys competition, again with two tournaments being run. Phil Waller and Nicholas Mulvey met in the semis with Nathan Derrick and Tim Dixon in the other semi. Phil beat Nick 9/0, 9/1, 9/2 while Nathan beat Tim 9/2, 5/9, 9/5, 9/4 which led to Phil and Nathan battling it out in the final with Phil taking Nathan 9/2, 9/4, 9/2. Congratulations to Phil Waller (Hazelwood) U15 Boys Champion and Nathan Derrick (R3 Stevenage) runner-up. Congratulations to Josh Ryan (Berkhamsted) winner of the U15 Boys B competition and Shane Van Der Watt (West Herts) runner-up. Congratulations to Johnny McElligott (Gosling) winner of the U15 Boys Plate competition and Albie Gibbs (Hazelwood) runner-up. 10 Girls entered the U15 Girls competition and were put into two leagues of five with the top two of each league playing in the finals session. Congratulations to Rachael Foster (Cannons) U15 Girls Champion and Brogan Lane (Bishops Stortford) runner-up. 16 Boys entered the U19 Boys tournament meaning that a plate competition could be run. Jonathan Fuller battled his way through Rhys Thomas winning 9/0, 9/5, 9/4 in the first semi-final. Adrian Waller and Olly Dixon fought it out in the other semi-final with Adrian winning 9/0, 9/4, 9/4. Congratulations to Adrian Waller (Hazelwood) U19 Boys Champion and Jonathan Fuller (Gosling) runner-up. Congratulations to Jack Wilson (Hazelwood) winner of the U19 Boys Plate competition and Alastair Booth (Bishops Stortford) runner-up. * * * * * A big Thank you to Paul Allen and Jill Wood for a brilliant job of controlling the enthusiastic spectators whilst refereeing the finals at Cannons and Berkhamsted respectively.
