Herts County Junior Squash

Herts County Junior Meeting 13th July 2009
Present: Ron Worrall, John Beattie, Andrew Mulvey, Julian Craxton, Dave Richards, Steve Lloyd, Tim Taylor (Middlesex)
Apologies: Ray Waller, Richard Carr

Finances and future direction:
• Current balance of funds stands at £4,400
• Andrew confirmed that the Senior Committee treasurer had set up a standing order for a monthly contribution of £100 and that money was being received
• Andrew reconfirmed that annual spend was somewhere in the region of £2,500 and £3,000 and agreed to circulate a breakdown to committee members of expenditure for review.
• John confirmed that a potential sponsorship deal was under consideration at the moment and that he would inform the committee as soon as further information was available.
• The committee agreed that a development plan was required as to where monies were to be invested and that priorities and actions should be agreed. To this end the committee agreed that the focus should be on grass roots development rather than the elite. Dave expressed the view that the coaching set up should be reviewed, that as much coaching as possible should be self financing and that we should consider broadening the appeal of racketball and that a tournament between clubs should be set up within the next 12 months. All were in agreement with Dave’s suggestions and John asked for further ideas and suggestions to be forwarded to him for discussion at the next committee meeting. It was agreed that a development plan would be formulated at the next meeting. In the interim John would contact Mark Williams (England Squash regional coordinator) and invite him to the next meeting.

Herts Closed:
• It was agreed by majority that the format of the 2009 tournament would remain largely unchanged, primarily to ensure that the non elite players had sufficient court time and fun over the weekend.
• Dates of the events were discussed and Julian had carried out some research to ensure that the second weekend of the tournament did not have any major clashes with other events. All agreed that Cannons would be a good location for the tournament but that it was unlikely to be available on two consecutive weekends. Bekhamsted building work has overrun but Richard is confident that it will be complete by September – Richard has kindly offered the Bekhamsted facilities at no cost.
• Dates and venues for the tournament are as follows:
o Under 9 and under 11 to be held at Radlett on Saturday 12th September between 09:30 and 14:00
o Under 13, under 17 and girls under 19 to be held at Cannons St Albans (venue subject to confirmation) on 26th and 27th September – closing date for entries 14th September
o Under 15 and boys under 19 to be held at Berkhamsted (venue subject to confirmation) on October 3rd and 4th – closing date for entries 21st September

• Ron will circulate the tournament details upon confirmation of venue availability
