Herts County Junior Squash

Herts. County Junior Squash meeting 2/4/04

Minutes of Meeting

Present: Ray Waller, Dave Richards, Dudley Fuller, John Dixon.

Apologies: Simon Andrews, Dave Kerr, Dave Sciberas, Steve Lloyd. Jason Foster, Simon Andrews

Finances: Awards for all money is now in our account. £299 spent on mini squash bag. Ron Worrell received £100 expenses.

Inter-County – U13 are in the final at Manchester. Team will most likely be:

Philip Waller
Tim Dixon
Nick Mulvey
Joe Richards
Nathan Derek
Lewis Drakes

Above players not in necessarily in order of play. Training session for the team is planned for Sunday 1/5/05. This now arranged at Stortford. Team to be given County Shirts. John to sort out with Jason.

Interclub
Still on target in most age groups. 142 matches played 43 remaining.

With HCC withdrawing teams Phil Judd and Nick Dalgleish will be missing out on playing other players. Maybe we should consider offering them games with other teams as it seems a shame that these club players are not taking part due to no fault of their own.

It was noted that at a recent U15 match at Hazelwood ‘HCC B’ was a mixture of HCC and Gosling players. Whilst there is no major issue with this (as the overriding factor must be to get a team out ) Dave Richards wanted this pointed out.

Awards for All
Now we have the money we need to be allocate it wisely.

We have a basic outline on what areas we intend to spend the funds and this should form the framework for any suggestions the committee have. Please give it some thought and if you have any creative ideas then they would be welcome.

Dave Richards requested £120 for working with Brookmans Park Primary. This was eventually agreed although as Potters bar had already started this it was requested that for the future any funding should be approved before starting and not half way into it.

Dave Richards is to supply Ron with a short report on the numbers attending and also the name of the PE teacher at Brookmans Park.

It was the general view that any money allocated to fund grass roots should be followed up with a short report on the numbers it attracts and if possible the retention rate at the club hosting the taster sessions.

It would seem that one school in broxbourne wanted us to take the whole year (36 pupils) or none at all! This number is too large as we would require the use of several courts and a few coaches. We should offer to go into the school with mini squash. Aggressive requests from schools should not be accepted, as we will end up just giving free PE lessons.

Herts Youth Games – Scheduled for 9/5/04. Ron Palmer arranging. Ron Worrell wanted it noted that NO GIRLS are to be included in the herts Games this year.

Girls Squash

Janet Lawlor has agreed to be the girls team manager and coach for the coming season (05/06). She will get involved at the end of this season and will attend the meeting on the 11/4/05. Janet’s e-mail address is janet.lawlor@goslingsports.co.uk

A girls morning is scheduled for 3rd of April. Julian is arranging with Steve and Jenna Shrub. I have asked if janet could go along.

Gemma Ockwell is now ranked 9 in the U13 and Rachael 10.

Coaching: The part 1 course at HCC had to be cancelled as not sufficient numbers were interested.

Licensed Coaching –

Police Check - £42
2 Courses each £22
First Aid Course - £22
Annual refresher - £22

This qualification is now on the agenda of England Squash and as you can see has cost implications. The committee should be aware of this as funding MAY be requested. In my opinion this should be for the account of the coach especially if he is earning from his activities.

A.O.B.

Herts Open – Well done to Tim and Oliver Dixon, winners of the U15 and U13 events.

The new Inter Regional Competion is to be held during the school holidays. This has all happened very quickly. Oliver Dixon is playing from the county in the team.

Next meeting 11/4/05
