Herts County Junior Squash

Herts County Junior Meeting 07/09/09

Present: Ron Worrall, John Beattie, Andrew Mulvey, Julian Craxton, Richard Carr, Stephan Faulkner
Apologies: Steve Lloyd, Dave Richards

Finances and future direction:
• Current balance of funds stands at £5,232 (around £5,000 after expenditure claims to be paid)
• Andrew confirmed that the Senior Committee monthly contribution was now being regularly received
• Prior to the meeting Andrew had provided a breakdown of the previous year expenditure. Majority of spending was, as expected, Ron for admin, Julian for girls squash, training at Potters Bar, assistance with coaching qualifications and other sundry items
• There was much debate on future expenditure and it was agreed that the priority should definitely be aimed at ground level with more taster sessions and assistance with clubs who were actively seeking to develop their junior sections. To this end it was agreed that, provided clubs had sufficient infrastructure and commitment, assistance would be provided in terms of school liaison and possibly coaching. Ron will work with Richard on a project to develop junior squash at Berkhamsted and we will review whether this template can be taken forward, where applicable. It was agreed that coaching for county junior squads should be as self financing as possible and at least subsidised by a nominal amount (provisionally agreed at £5 per session per attendee) to be paid by parents.
• John confirmed that decision on the potential sponsorship deal was delayed until January 2010 but that it was still under consideration. John also agreed to send the previous Awards for All application to Mark Williams (Eastern Regional Coordinator) for review and potential resubmission to the replacement body.

Herts Closed:
• Ron confirmed that everything was booked for Nuffield (26th and 27th September) and Berkhamsted (3rd and 4th October). Richard confirmed that the redevelopment work at Berkhamsted would all be complete.
• Ron to circulate the draws and schedules for the forthcoming tournament weekends
• Julian to arrange trophies, t-shirts and squash balls and Ron to request rackets from Dunlop.

InterCounty
• All managers for teams now confirmed as follows:
U13 girls – Julian Craxton
U13 boys – Dave Richards
U15 boys – Troy Stewart
U17 boys – Stefan Faulkner
U19 boys – Ray Waller

• Training has been arranged for the under 15 and under 17 squads at Radlett with Adam Fuller on September 12th and 19th respectively

Inter club
• Ron confirmed that there were 38 teams (final number 39) entered for this season’s junior leagues and that details were being sent out to team managers in the next few days

East Regional Closed tournament
• The East Regional Closed was held at Bishop’s Stortford on 5th and 6th September. Andrew reported that the event fielded 82 entrants with 25 Herts players taking part. Of note, Hannah Day won the girls under 13, Laurence Green the boys under 13, Brogan Lane the girls under 17 and Nick Mulvey the boys under 17 – a fantastic achievement for the Herts players

Grands prix
• Provisional dates of 29th November and 7th March have been set (no venues at this stage)

AOB
• Andrew mentioned that it was the 25th anniversary of the Tom Elton-Barratt tournament this year being held on 12th and 13th December at Bishop’s Stortford
• It was agreed that we should promote the Committee and invite further participation via flyers at the Junior Closed. Andrew kindly agreed to design the flyers and Ron to distribute at the events

Next meeting

• 19:45  2nd November at Nuffield, St Albans
