Not
a Joke - Hybrid Tennis May 2007
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal met on a special court in Mallorca
- grass on one side of the net, clay on the other. The players will
swap ends as normal in the exhibition match and will have to keep
switching to the appropriate footwear.
Federer hasn't lost on grass for four years, while Nadal added to his
72-match unbeaten run on clay in Barcelona in April. The respective
kings of clay and grass have met 10 times in their careers but never
on a hybrid court - until now.
A packed crowd at the Palma Arena waits expectantly to see who will
come out on top as the match gets under way. As neither player has
lost to the other when playing on their favoured surface, an
intriguing match is guaranteed.
The world number one and two set about entertaining the crowd in the
best-of-three-set match. A competitive match goes the distance with Nadal eventually prevailing 7-5 4-6 7-6. |
