LADIES COUNTY REPORT DIVISION 1 SOUTH SECOND STAGE 13/14th March 2004 Relegation Weekend.
Team Zoe Smith, Captain: Isobel Smith, Elke Rubsam, Maureen Winter, Sheila Blake, Emma Abbeglan Cambridgeshire hosted this weekend, the other two counties being Devon and S E Wales. Herts beat Cambridgeshire 5-0 Our first match was against Cambridgeshire. Elke and Sheila got us off to a good start both winning their matches, although Elke was playing against the marker as well, but happily won the match anyway !!! Maureen and Zoe then both won their matches comfortably and I thankfully won my match. A 5-0 victory and very good start to the weekend. S E Wales beat Devon 3-2 Herts beat Devon 3-2 Second match was against Devon who we needed to beat as S E Wales were the strongest team. Sheila fought through and won her match 3-2 unfortunately cramp got the better of Elke and she lost her game 3-1. Maureen too was unable to repeat her performance in the morning and lost her match. Zoe played a very good tactical match to beat her opponent 3-0. It was then up to me! I went 2-0 up and then decided to go walkabout, but managed to win the fifth game, so we managed to beat Devon 3-2. SE Wales beat Cambridgeshire 4-1 Although we had won two matches it was still close on points so we couldn’t drink too much on Saturday night! Unfortunately Maureen and Sheila were off on holiday on Sunday morning so Emma and Laura were travelling up on Sunday. However, Laura was not at all well and phoned to say she could not play on Sunday, so we were down to four. Sunday morning came and, after the traditional full English Breakfast, we were all raring to go, not! Emma played well but lost 3-1, Elke was beaten 3-0 by a very fit 17 year old. Zoe went on and played a blinder to beat the Wales No. 1 3-0, the girl was not pleased! I had the chance to win but in the end lost 3-2. So we lost the match 4-1 Devon beat Cambridgeshire 3-2 We therefore avoided relegation and remain in Division 1. Well played to all the team. Final Results S E Wales
