Hi All,
Well it is that time yet again when you have to decide “Do I enter a team?”
Unfortunately I have several pieces of news that I need to share with you
all.
Firstly it seems that as a county Herts SRA we are starting to run out of
money, there are several factors as to why that I shall not go into detail
on, if you are interested in the “ins and outs” of it all please contact
Paul Drakes who will be happy to explain. Suffice to say that every year we
get a direct percentage of money from England squash for the number of
players a club registers as well as team subscriptions and competitions.
These have not been policed as effectively as they could be.
To rectify these problems the following will be done.
Entry to the divisional leagues will require an invoice number that we will
generate for you that shall be used when submitting your payment, thus
providing Herts SRA with an effective method of identifying that all
payments are accounted for.
Well that is the easy bit, the second part is a little bit more tricky.
According to England Squash not all of the clubs within the county are
declaring the correct number of players that are playing at their club and
in turn not paying England Squash the correct amount of subscription. This
is unfortunately having a direct impact on the amount of revenue that Herts
SRA are receiving from England Squash. As you can imagine this is not a good
situation to be in and therefore something needs to be done. It is with
reluctance that I write that unless a club accounts for all of their
players, box leagues as well as team squash players, that the offending
clubs will not be allowed to enter any team into the Herts Squash leagues
until this has been rectified. Even though it is becoming more difficult to
convince clubs to enter teams it has been decided by the committee that the
better option is to exclude offending clubs.
As a starting point the number of team players registered at a club will be
measured against the players registered on the Ninenil website and cross
referenced against the number submitted to England Squash. This does NOT
cover all of the players as clubs need to register all of their members
though.
Now that the new PAR scoring has been running for the team squash for a
winter season the committee have reflected upon feedback received, whilst
most of the communications have been positive with regards to the change to
PAR it has become apparent that some of the games are not long enough,
namely the PAR 11.
It has been decided that ALL matches will now be played PAR 15 for ALL
Divisions, effective immediately!
I have contacted England Squash several times on the subject of scoring as
well as having it raised as a discussion point at the Inter County meeting.
The answer coming back is always along the lines of “The Squash Federation
are keen to move forward with a consistent approach to scoring and favour
the PAR scoring over the old scoring system”. Hmm helpful eh! I have also
contacted several other counties to see what approach they are taking to
scoring and they are moving in the general direction of PAR 15.
It has been an education for us to learn that PAR is a workable scoring
system, but that PAR 11 only works for the highest caliber players.
If any of you have major objections to the modification of the scoring
system, please feel free to contact any of the committee to discuss the
situation.
A further piece of news that I would like to share with you, you can decide
whether this is good or bad or not, is that I have decided it is no longer
practical for me to run the Herts Mens leagues long term and so I will be
stepping down as league secretary towards the end of this year. I will pull
together this summer as well as the next winter league and look to hand over
the mantle to someone new. It is a position that I have enjoyed and feel
that I have contributed to Herts Squash in a positive way. If any of you
wish to volunteer your services for the position of Herts League Secretary
please contact any of the committee.
Now that’s out of the way, onto the details for the Summer.
If you wish to enter a team, please contact me with your team and desired
division, the entry date cut off point will be the end of this month 30th
April, with a view to releasing fixtures ready for court bookings week 18th
May. (This may slip by a week depending upon responses).
When I have received all of the entries I will then provide you individually
with an invoice number which you will need for payment to the Herts SRA bank
account, entry cost for a team will be £30 for the season.
Below is a list of the teams that entered for last summer, if possible it
would be good to get an even number of teams per Division so that there are
no gap weeks for the season.

quickly as I can, please bear with me.
Please also forward this mail to anyone whom you feel would be interested in
running a team for the summer.
regards,
Phil Jenkins
Herts SRA Mens Secretary
