HERTS COUNTY SRA MINUTES COMMITTEE MEETING Sally Ann & Dominic’s House on Wednesday 11th April 2007 Present: Dominic Webster, Isobel Smith, Sally Ann Webster, Jason Foster, Paul Drakes, Phil Jenkins, Fiona McLure Apologies: Derek Thorpe, Nicky Wase, Secretary’s report Dominic reported that Lewis Baker, who deals with membership issues had left England Squash, no one has taken his place as yet. Membership has increased to £6.50 for adults and £4.50 for juniors. The AGM was set for Monday 4th June 2007, hopefully at Broxbourne. Jason will check if this is o.k. Chairman’s Report Jason reported that the Herts Closed had run very smoothly and had been a success. The men’s county 1st team had had a fantastic result and gained promotion to the Premier Division for the first time. Bishops Stortford had become England Squash ‘Club of the Year 2007’. Well done to them. Adrian Waller now U’19 national champion. Bishops Stortford hosted the Herts Junior Open and had over 200 entrants! Although very hectic the event went very well. The tournament was sponsored by Mercedes Benz. Sally Ann mentioned an online entry form system that she had seen, whereby you can enter and pay online immediately and the data base is updated straight away. It was felt this would be a great idea for the future. More investigation needed though to implement. Herts Cup going well and finals due to take place at Radlett on Thursday 19th April. Jason has purchased the trophies. Isobel offered to do food for the teams, probably a buffet style meal. Junior Committee has applied for another Award for All grant. All in all the profile of squash in Hertfordshire is definitely be raised, with the success of the juniors and also more tournaments. It was felt that we need to start getting reports in local newspapers and trying to stimulate even more interest around Hertfordshire. Ideally the committee would have someone specifically for this task. Jason will try and put a report together for the newspapers and everyone to send a small report to Jason for inclusion. Treasurer’s Report Paul handed out a report (attached). All county expenses etc have been paid. No problem with accounts for AGM. Paul asked if we really need to have the accounts audited. If it is not written in the constitution there is no need to do it. Ladies Leagues Fiona reported that the season had gone well and after the teams being split at the halfway stage, Bishops Stortford had won division 1 and Allenburys had won Division 2. Still need more ladies teams. Mens Leagues Sally Ann reported that the summer league was short on entries for 1st and 2nd divisions and that she had too many teams in divisions 3,4 and 5. After discussion a few teams were moved around and all seems to be o.k. Any Other Business The committee commented on the very sad, sudden death of Alan Pedder, a member of Gosling and an enthusiastic member of the Herts Squash leagues. There are still hopes for a doubles tournament to be run. Phil has asked Adam Fuller to perhaps organise this, but no feedback as yet. Next Meeting will be AGM Monday 4th June 2007 |
