Mens Over 35 County WeekendSocial match: Herts O35 Select V Cambridgeshire O35Herts County Squash at Bishops Stortford Sunday 29th March 2004
A very enjoyable match was played at Cambridge
Squash Club on Sunday 29th March 2004.
This match was played instead of a planned Inter-County match due to Herts and Cambs Over 35 teams winning promotion in November 2003 from Division 2 to Division 1.
First on court was team captain Jason Foster
(Bishop's Stortford) who played Andy Whitmore, Jason started slowly and
the first two games were shared each going the distance, however Jason's
superior shots helped him win the next two games comfortably.
On the other court Martin White (HCC) started
brightly to win the first game 9-4 but ran out of steam to lose the next
three.
Herts Over 35 Champion Martin Geear (Bishop's
Stortford) defeated the Cambs Over 35 Champion Vinod Duraikan in three
close games.
Dominic Webster (HCC) followed Martin White's
lead and won the first game convincingly however he also ran out of
steam to lose the next three games.
Richard Lewis (Cannons St.Albans) turned in the
performance of the day beating Cambs Number 2 Rob Baddeley 3-1. It was
good seeing Richard return to the kind of form that we all know he's
capable of.
Graham Evans (Bishop's Stortford) lost a hard fought match 9-8 in the fourth game.
Herts Ladies O35 Champ Isobel Smith lost three
close games to Carol Page who has recently been crowned British Over 40
Champion.
Ex Herts Senior county Champion and current
Cambs Champion Galen LeCheminant made a welcome return to Herts colours
to play top Cambs player Nick Brown. In an entertaining match Galen
looking alot fitter beat his younger opponent 10-9 in the third game to
win 3-0
With the matches tied at 4-4 Herts won on
