NEW COURTS FOR THE FURZEFIELD CENTRE
POTTERS BAR
Two new squash courts are to be officially launched on Sunday 22 June at 10.00 a.m. when the Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Eddie Roach will declare the facilities open. The ceremony will be followed by a handicap tournament and an exhibition game at 12 noon featuring ex-British champion and current national coach, Paul Carter.
Regular players at the Furzefield Centre were disappointed when it was decided to close the existing courts last August to extend the Beaumonts’ fitness facilities. The Council however, in conjunction with Hertsmere Leisure, the organisation that operates the facilities, made a commitment to provide for public squash in Potters Bar and the two new courts are the first to be built in Hertfordshire for a number of years.
The courts are glass-backed and feature two coloured front walls as well as multi-height tins (17 and 19 inches) to cater for everyone’s needs from beginner to national standard.
Phil Collins, Chief Executive of Hertsmere Leisure said:
"I am delighted about this new provision at one of the largest and busiest centres in the south-east. I’m sure the local squash players will be equally pleased with this new provision."
