The World Squash
Federation, the sport's governing body, has announced plans for
'WSF Squash', an official simulation video game, to be launched
next month.
Players will be able to take part in online matches against each
other, while an offline tournament mode allows users to organise
virtual tournaments during real events. There are 12 real top
squash players in the game, and users can choose between four
different top tournaments at iconic locations.
The WSF said the computer game, initially only available on PC,
had been four years in the making.
Squash is bidding to join the Olympic sports programme for the
2020 games, N Ramachandran, president of the WSF, believes the
computer game is another way to attract more young people to the
sport, saying: "Our hope, of course, is that in endorsing this
game we will see a significant number of newcomers to squash
trying it - who may then feel that they would like to try the
real thing on court, and boost grassroots numbers as a result."
