Squash & Racketball - Do they mix?

They certainly do!

Players of both sports at Hertford Squash Club got together on 26th/27th November to play in a 24 hour Rackethon to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign. The attachment is a picture of some of the players and supporters at the end of the 24hrs.

Our small club, of two courts and part of Hertford Rugby Club, set out to keep a game of squash or racketball going for 24 hours with each player committing to raise a minimum of £20 sponsorship. With 35 players taking part through the 24 hours, as organiser, I was looking forward to raising at least £700 and maybe more for the Campaign, who knows!

Not only did the event help to bring a large number of members of our small club together and create a great atmosphere but, at the time of writing, it has helped to raise a staggering £3500+ for the Campaign!! We finished the event to the song by Heather Small, 'Proud'. This has the chorus "what have you done today to make you feel proud?". How appropriate, it seems this is also the song being used to promote Great Britain's bid for the Olympics in 2012. Coincidence, honest!

Ours is a club where Racketball is becoming increasingly popular and it would be great to see this mentioned in your magazine that we, as a club, hope will be mentioning Racketball a lot more in the future.

Warm regards, Eddie Hillion
Event Organiser, Hertford Squash Club.
