Welcome to our third newsletter. We hope that you are finding the newsletter informative, but would welcome any comments about how we can improve the content.
A big welcome to all new members. I hope you are enjoying your time at Radlett Tennis Club. I would like to remind new members that they must remember to sign in at the beginning of each Friday Junior Social and get their parents to sign them out when they are leaving. The Junior Closed Tennis Tournament is well under way. Please make sure that you know whom you are playing and make the necessary arrangements for organising your match well before the play-by date. Junior Closed Tennis Tournament Finals - 9th July. Family Barbecue and Disco This year we will be holding the end-of-term party on finals day. We hope that you will be able to join us for this event. The finals will begin at 10am and run throughout the day; please do come and watch. Anthony will also be running a mini tennis tournament during the day. We will be holding the prize-giving at 5pm. All entrants will receive a prize. The barbecue and disco will follow immediately. Tickets are priced at £5 per adult, £3 per child or a family ticket at £15 for 2 adults and 2 children. Tickets will be available for purchase from behind the bar or from any committee member on a Friday night. If you can spare us a few hours of your time during the day, please let either or know. Junior Tennis Club Rules – a number of you will have now received the new rules for Junior Tennis at the club. These will continue to be distributed to members during Friday Junior Social. Please read these rules with your children to ensure that they fully understand how they must behave at the club. We are growing rapidly and want to ensure that all juniors are able to play in a safe environment. Please return the completed slip to the club. Friday Social – After discussions at the committee, a number of changes will take place from next term. The Social will start at 5pm and end at 9pm. There will be two sessions, from 5pm to 7pm and 7pm to 9pm. All ages are welcome from 5pm, but the session up until 7pm will be focussed on the under 10s. We continue to ask for parent helpers each week, but this seems to fall on the same people each term. Therefore, we will be putting together a rota for next term, which will list the parents of children who have previously attended the Social. If you are unable to make the week you have been allocated, it will be your responsibility to change with another parent. All members’ telephone numbers are available from the members’ list held at the club. If all parents do their bit, the commitment is likely to be two sessions a year. The role of the parent helper is as follows: · Make sure all juniors attending the Junior Social are signed in. · Make sure the juniors do not run around the clubhouse. All juniors should be out on court or in the bar area. · Make sure each junior goes home with an adult and they have been signed out. · Check that children are not sitting in the changing rooms. · Ensure all snacks and drinks are consumed only in the bar area. We would like to remind parents that all children attending Junior Social must remain either on court or in and around the clubhouse. This is because a river runs along the boundary of the club, which is potentially a danger if children do not adhere to the junior club rules. We welcome parents of these children to socialise in the club, but they are wholly responsible for any other children they bring with them, especially very young children. Dates for the autumn Junior Social are as follows: 9th September – 21st October 4th November – 9th December We hope to be able to continue not charging for attending the Junior Social, but this is dependent on the revenue created from junior members having lessons at the club. Please contact Gee on 07793-319847; he will be able to advise you of the best course for your child. Teams Junior National Club League U14 Girls – match played at Townsend Tennis Club on 8th May, lost 3-1. This was a reasonable result as the competition was very strong. This means that we should stay in division 2 of this league. Junior National Club League U14 Boys – played Rye Park on Friday 10th June and won 3-0.
