New Tennis RulesJuly 2004The Tennis committee have decided on a new format for the leagues commencing in July 2004 . The following amendments to the existing rules have been made:- 1. The new leagues will comprise five players. 2. It is the intention that leagues will now run for a period of 4 weeks. The leagues will commence when the leagues are emailed out to everyone & put on the notice board, usually around 29Th of each month & finish in the evening at 10pm on or around the 26th of each month. 3. At the end of each league one player will be promoted, one relegated and three Remain in the same league. This is, of course, subject to amendment when either new Players join the leagues or if players do not play their games (see point 6) at the Discretion of the League Officer. 4. It is the responsibility of all players to make an effort to contact other players for guidance. However, you should endeavour to make contact with the two people below you i.e. player one contacts players 2 and 3, player 5 should contact players 1 and 2. 5. Matches are played over the best Ten e games with the following points awarded: 3 games to 0 = 6-1 3 games to 1 = 5-2 3 games to 2 = 4-3 Three additional points will be awarded to players who play all their games. Either all four games or the maximum possible as long as the player who drops out has played no other games in the league. 6. If a player plays no games he will have to reapply to join the leagues after serving a one month penalty. If he plays one game he will automatically be relegated one league. If he plays two games he cannot be promoted. 7. If a game is arranged between two players and one does not show up on the night and no effort has been made to forewarn the player of the need to cancel the game then the player turning up may either at his option claim four points or elects to replay the game at a mutually convenient time. The absent player will receive 0 points. 8. If a match is not completed during the allotted time and there is no other court available to finish the match, then it must either be replayed by mutual consent or the following points score taken:- 1-0 1 point – 0 point 1-1 1 point each 2-1 3 points – 1 point 2-2 3 points each The game in progress at that time shall not count unless one player is at least six points ahead whereupon he shall be deemed to have won the game. If a game is not completed as a result of an injury to one player then the fit player may either arrange to play the game at a later date, or take the above relevant points score plus one additional point. However, if the injury was caused by that player in which case, by mutual consent, the game shall be rearranged or the above relevant points score taken. 9. The league sheets have been modified to include email addresses, if you have any queries, or are unable to play, injured, away on holiday or wish to skip a month, please email or call me early so that we do not have inactive leagues as this is unfair to other people who want an active 5 person league. These amendments have been brought in to encourage members to play more, if not all, of their games. It is unfair to other league players if you neither make yourself available nor make an effort to book courts. Inevitably there will be exceptions to the rules. Where such situations arise the Squash Committee/League Officer will have sole discretion. However, should any players have any grievances then initially contact should be made with the League Officer via email. New players are always welcome. Please add your name, telephone numbers & email address , estimated league position to the sheet provided below the league tables, or prefer to email details this is a my preferred 1St choice .
