Herts beat Norfolk         5 – 0

Hertfordshire had been grouped with hosts Norfolk and Northants for Stage 1 of the England Squash U19 Boys Inter-County Championships. Unfortunately, Northants withdrew from the competition the week before, as they were unable to field a team.

As evidenced in the results table above, Norfolk had an uncharacteristically weak team this year with some of their best players having moved out of the age group or at university and unavailable. The match was hosted at one of Norfolk’s top squash clubs, Barnham Broom. All matches were played in a good spirit although Herts met minimal resistance in any of them. However, Norfolk were good hosts and entertained us well.

Stage 2 of the championships is to be held on 29 January 2006 and I believe, with the maturity of the side we now have and with Adrian Waller in the wings, we have an extremely good chance of winning this stage to secure a place at the Grand Finals in Manchester on 13-14 May 2006.

Final positions and points are:

1.      Hertfordshire         20

2.      Norfolk                   0
