Telephone Scam?
1. A woman comes to the door and asks to use the ‘phone, claiming that her car has broken down and needs to inform her husband. In fact she rings a personal number that she has set up at £50 per minute, making her call last about five minutes and she gets the money. YOU ARE THEN CHARGED THE £250 ON YOUR NEXT TELEPHONE BILL.
2. A person rings a place of work and tells the person answering that they are doing a survey for the post office and if they just give their Post Code, they will receive Gift Vouchers. Later, instead of Gift Vouchers they get burgled.
3. A technician calls and says he is checking telephones in your area. He then asks you to dial 90 and the Hash key. This will automatically give the caller instant access to your own ‘phone line, allowing them to make INTERNATIONAL CALLS, AT YOUR EXPENSE, AS WELL AS ALL THEIR OTHER CALLS. Under no circumstances ever ring 90 and HASH.
