Well I have to admit that I feel a little relieved over the
result on Tuesday night. Whilst I did had my fingers crossed hoping for a win,
I can't say that I am to disappointed with the result. Lexden have gained
ground and so have Connaught, but we still remain second to Chichester, but I
do not expect them to stay there long! I was also disappointed that Linda
Charman decided at short notice to spend a couple of days in France with her
boyfriend rather than face Natalie Pohrer at Broxbourne! Her replacement,
Suzie Pierrepont, got a good hiding as a result. Linda owes her a favour.
I was delighted that 'local' favourite, Jesse, was able to
kick off his National League career with a win over the vastly more
experienced Ben Ford. This has been a remarkable year so far for Jesse after
winning a Commonwealth medal earlier in the year. I am sure we will be hearing
lots more from him.
Our squad will be looking a little bit more 'normal' when
we travel away to Connaught on 5th November, but it will be one of the
toughest games ever as Connaught have declared that World No.1, Peter Nicol
& Ong Beng Hee both play! This means Tim Garner at 3 and Lee Jemmett at
4!! On the positive side, Mark Chaloner is confident at having a pop at Nicol
in the American scoring system adopted by the League. "It allows for a
much closer game, and as a result, I know I have a chance". At second
string, Rod Durbach takes on Ong Beng Hee. Bengy Boy has been out of the
headlines lately and those of you who watched the corresponding match last
season would have seen Rod 'do the business' over Bengy after a balls up with
the playing order which was never resolved to our satisfaction! Gordon
& I also won the jackpot out of the Connaught fruit machine last
year, so you can imagine, we were quite vocal that night.
At third string, Alex Stait or Danny Meddings will play Tim
Garner, with Alistair Walker playing Lee Jemmett. Alistair is on fire at the
moment, beating Mark Heather (ranked some 70 places above him) in the
last few days. The only one missing is Borja Golan, who has just taken another
PSA title (Calgary Open) beating the No.1 seed Ben Garner on the way! As soon
as he is back in the country we will be seeing him in NL at Broxbourne.
So, make a date in your diary if you haven't already. 5th
November at Connaught Squash Club in Chingford. Its very easy to get to, and
we need all the support.
