TVS Broxbournesquash Newsletter No.6 National League

The late withdrawal of Broxbourne captain Mark Chaloner through a heavy cold put unwanted pressure on a Broxbourne team looking to maintain their spot at the top of Group B in round 5 of the National League. However, with new squad member Philip Nightingale being drafted in at 4th string, everyone moved up one place. My prediction of 0-5 away win in our favour was still very much on the cards with Nightingale taking a 2-0 lead. But this was short lived as the home player, Mick Biggs went deep into his reserves to pull the match back slowly but surely to win 3-2. Alison Waters making her debut for Broxbourne this season, was untroubled by Sarah Kippax, winning 3-0.

It was now up to the 'heart' of the Broxbourne team to see us through to the result we were hoping for. A Broxbourne win. We were not disappointed. Alistair Walker, still smarting from his only League defeat in two seasons at the hands of Joey Kemp in last years semi, showed that turning professional this season was the right thing to do. Having warmed up in the first, he ran out an easy winner 3-1. Danny Meddings elevated at short notice to 2nd string took it all in his stride to extend the Broxbourne lead, beating Neil Frankland 3-1. This left only Rod Durbach, Broxbourne's vice captain to beat Stephen Meads who is currently ranked above Rod in the World rankings, which he duly did 3-0.

We continue to lead Group B only on game difference, but you can see that this is still a substantial margin.
